Some findings about the LA-LE4 adapter and Minolta AF lenses<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t express in words my amazement for this new mirrorless camera Sony just released.<\/p>\n<p>I was already so eager to receive it for test since doing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alinpopescu.eu\/blog\/test-hands-on-cu-a7r-ii-rx100-iv-si-rx10-ii-hands-on\/\" target=\"_blank\">hands-on test<\/a>\u00a0in London during the press event back in June. I got it couple of days ago from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SonyRomania?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Sony Romania<\/a> and I can&#8217;t stop showing a\u00a0dumb smile on my\u00a0face even now, while writing this first impression.<\/p>\n<p>I have on hands some amazing lens line-up:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f\/4 ZA OSS (check stock and price <a href=\"http:\/\/www.f64.ro\/f398219\/sony-vario-tessar-t--fe-16-35mm-f-4-za-oss.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Sony Sonnar T* FE SEL 55mm F1.8 ZA (check <a href=\"http:\/\/www.f64.ro\/f398219\/sony-sonnar-t--fe-sel-55mm-f1-8-za-montura-e.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm f\/1.4 ZA (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B00UJRSOB6\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B00UJRSOB6&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=allipope-21&amp;linkId=X7P7TS2ITTCW3QY7\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>and also the old Beercan Minolta 70-210 F4 (check eBay :p)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The impressive lenses above combined with this new monster of detail gives you razor sharp images and some crop capabilities one could only dream about just a few years (not to say months) ago.<\/p>\n<p>I own both the <strong>Sony A7s<\/strong> and the\u00a0<strong>Sony A6000<\/strong> (reviews <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alinpopescu.eu\/blog\/sony-a7s-review-camera-bites-dark\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alinpopescu.eu\/blog\/full-review-focus-tests-sony-a6000-beautiful-dream\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and I know very well what they&#8217;re capable of. I&#8217;m sure many of you have asked this question at least once since Sony announced the new A7R II.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What about ISO performance of such a high megapixel count camera?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With no further explanations I give you this sample below, shot at every major ISO setting. On the left is the full image resized to see the dynamic range and contrast and on the right, 100% crop for each ISO setting. Well, plenty of. Below is an example of an un-edited RAW, saved to JPEG and then the edited version of it (just minor tweaks in shadow, higlights, WB and contrast). I&#8217;ve tested it both in AF-S and AF-C and I can&#8217;t say anything bad about it. I know many of you wanted it at F1.4, but who shoots fast moving action wide open? To make sure subject is in focus, I&#8217;ve slowed down even more the action at the end and presented it to you in 4k. Watch for it &#8216;couse it will update everytime I have new images with the A7R II to post.<\/p>\n<h1>What about video?<\/h1>\n<p>Let alone you can shoot internal 4K videos, full HD XAVC S film-like movies (due to Picture Profiles embeded), you also can shoot 100p full HD video for a nice 4x slow motion effect (when playing back to 25p).<\/p>\n<p><strong>But what about 8K<\/strong>? I&#8217;ve managed to do an 8K video clip, actually a time lapse shot with the available Play Memories app. I&#8217;ve recorded 300 stills at 1s interval and then edited them and saved as 16 bits Tiffs (it took me 2h to rended on a high end Mac Book Pro). 65 Gb of files combined together\u00a0to get this ProRes 8K UHD video, which YouTube has struggle to play in 8K. It depends on your connection and computer power if you&#8217;ll be able to watch it at full res (7680&#215;4320 pixels).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"838\" height=\"471\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YmtJ9RcTe1k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve played also with the internal 4K 100 Mbs video. Here are some random shots\u00a0at the Black Sea on a bad weather.\u00a0It&#8217;s mostly shot in PP7 s-Log2 100 Mbps.\u00a0Exposure was manual at 1\/50s and various ISO and Apertures to keep a constant +2EV overexposure.<\/p>\n<p>Edited in Final Cut Pro X where I&#8217;ve fixed the exposure, colors and contrast and then I&#8217;ve applied the A7s Film Convert Profile for s-Log2 + 1 Gammut.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"838\" height=\"471\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JdVObsWuYpQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Because many have asked on various channels, here is the Before\/After Grading clip<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"838\" height=\"471\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rvDzaCM3e3o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h1>First conclusions<\/h1>\n<p>I have yet to find anything to not like about the new Sony A7R II. Until then, I&#8217;ll go shoot more with this little gem!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Reporting back to you about the A7R II:<\/h2>\n<p>Not so good news for the legacy lenses shooters out there. I&#8217;ve tested my beercan Minolta AF 70-210 F4 lens with the LA-LE4 adapter on the A7R II in continuous shooting and AF-C to see how it tracks the subjects.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It won&#8217;t do it!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\ud83d\ude41 focus remained fixed at the first frame shot in any combination of settings I&#8217;ve tried.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Edit: 1.
