So we’ve been all impressed by the launch of new toys from Sony, including the Sony A7RIII, the Sony FE 24-105 F4 G and the announcement of in-development Sony G Master 400mm f/2.8.
I’ve posted details here about all of them, including some live-footage from the event.
After the presentation we were invited for some hands-on experiences with both the A7RIII (see the hands on article here) camera and the new lens, the Sony FE 24-105 F4 G.
How does Sony FE 24-105 F4 G feel in you hands?
First, it’s not as heavy as you would have expected for such a big full-frame zoom. Sits perfectly on the Sony A9 (the camera I’ve tested it on – review here).

As you can see from the image above, we’ve got the Image Stabilisation switch, the AF-MF button and also a programmable button which I’ve always set for EYE-AF on my cameras. It has a 77mm filter diameter and that’s all about it from the outside.
From the inside, meaning the images it can take, it didn’t present any flaws related to focusing in that available light (two sets were lighted with continuous light, and another was with speed-lights).
I won’t insist much about it, I’ll let the images do the talk. You’ll see first the whole image and then a 100% crop (with camera settings below it).

“some talks about the 4K 60p video” you got my attention there, but all I got from this is that sony considers HDR more importaint than 60p and how “creators” dont need 60p. That its only good for documentary, not for cinematics or creative purposes… WTF?? Guy never heard of slow motion??? Its not a creative tool??? Pretty stupid explanation….

Well, I mean it was a polite answer not to tell us more about the 60p :). I think he implied cameras dedicated to documentaries need this more, and what camera do we know for this purpose too? Well, the a7s series, so it might be present in the next model. I just want to think it this way 🙂
